Florence + the Machine will replace Foo Fighters at this year’s Glastonbury. Florence Welch and her band will top the bill on the Friday night at the Somerset event, after the rock band were forced to cancel their show at the festival as a result of Dave Grohl’s injury.

Emily Eavis said that, while she was disappointed with the Foo Fighters’ cancellation, there was “only one person we wanted to call, and that was Florence”.
Eavis added: “Every time [Florence Welch] has played here she has done something spectacular, and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid stage one day. I’m delighted she is going to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
In response to her newly upgraded set at Glastonbury, Welch said:
I’m so sorry to hear that Dave Grohl has broken his leg. I met him when we were just starting out and he is honestly one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Having just experienced a broken foot I know how devastating it can be to break something on stage so I am sending him all my love. Glastonbury have asked us to step in which is an incredible honour. We hope we will be able to give you just as good a Friday night as the Foos...
Florence + the Machine’s third studio album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful, which not only debuted at No 1 in the UK charts, and has reached the top of the US album chart in a record-breaking move for the band.
Welch and the group have previously performed the Worthy Farm festival, with her standout 2010 performance at the Other stage proving to many that she was capable of headlining the Pyramid stage. She was previously booked to support the Foo Fighters on the Friday evening. Information about further scheduling alterations have not yet been announced.
It was announced on 17 June that Foo Fighters would cancel their appearance at Glastonbury, along with shows at in London and Edinburgh after the band’s singer and guitarist, Dave Grohl, broke his leg during a concert.
