Florence Pugh has set the record straight on her real accent.
The 27-year-old Little Women and Black Widow star addressed accusations that she fakes her English accent while speaking on the Off Menu Podcast with James Acaster and Ed Gamble.
Florence is well known for her ability to put on accents for her different roles, including her very convincing American accent. However, this has led to many fans believing she’s from the USA.

In fact, Florence really is British, having grown up in Oxford. Apparently, she hasn’t convinced many people of that so far though. On Twitter, one fan wrote: “Had no idea Florence Pugh was British. Her American accent is perfect.”
Another added: “Florence Pugh's British accent sounds fake. Lady claims was born in Oxford but I'm not buying it. She's looks and talks like she's from Kansas and went to a SEC school.”
Florence has now addressed the issue; when host James Acaster praised an accent she’d put on during the podcast, she said: "Well, I can do northern quite easily. My gran is from Grimsby so I grew up taking the p***out of my grandad."
Acaster added: "The first few things I saw you in, it was all American accents so I thought you were American." Florence replied: "So many people think I’m American.
"Then when I do things publicly, like if I present an award or I’m on a stage talking, they’re like, 'That is the fakest English accent I have ever heard. What do you think I... how... what?"
She also added: "Sometimes when I’ve done Instagram Stories, [they’re] like, 'Oh my god, Florence Pugh sounds like she’s doing an accent,' and I’m like no, that is me. That’s literally me. So sorry."
