FLORAVILLE Public School's kindergarten students received a one-of-a-kind delivery this week, when their teachers - decked out in tutus, colourful accessories and blowing bubbles - drove to every single one of their houses to drop off packs of work.
Principal Simon Mulready said the teachers of the four kindergarten classes left the school at noon and spent six hours visiting the 78 students across Belmont, Floraville and Tingira Heights.
"All schools in NSW are setting up their home learning hubs to enable students to learn from home digitally, but for kindergarten students to spend a whole day sitting in front of screen might be a bit of a challenge," Mr Mulready said.
"The school has also provided take home packs so they are able to work on their sight words and practice sounds and phonetics. We wanted to make it a fun experience for them, because students are really missing that connection with the school."
He said Amazing Race winners Tim Sattler - the son of teacher Kathy Sattler - and Rod Jones joined them to deliver the work to student Esmae Santone, who had made them a sign reading 'thank you teachers'.
"There were some magic moments - the smiles on the childrens' faces warmed our hearts," Mr Mulready said.
"Kids from other grades were coming out to their front doors and on their balconies to call out to us because they heard we were driving up their street."
Mr Mulready said the school had digital resources available this week and would launch its new learning from home website on Monday to allow teachers to set tasks and provide feedback.
The school will lend laptops and make phone calls to every student.
