Floral tributes pile up outside Glasgow pub for bar worker 'with big heart' who died in her sleep

Residents in the west end of Glasgow have come together to pay tribute to a former pub worker regarded as "a true Partick legend" after she died in her sleep.

Eveline Stark, affectionately known as 'Evelina China', worked at the Victoria Bar on Dumbarton Road for over 20 years.

Floral tributes were laid outside the pub as a mark a respect for Eveline's passing, as a lot of her friends will be unable to attend her funeral given current social distancing measures.

Despite having recently retired, Eveline could still be spotted a few times a week in the pub to see everyone and catch up, and was also in a ladies darts team that competed there.

The pub's Facebook page was flooded with posts paying tribute to a "beautiful woman with a big heart" and a "true legend" who will be "missed by many".

Speaking to Glasgow Live , a spokesman for The Victoria Bar said of Eveline: "She worked in the pub for over 20 years. She was a character and was affectionately called as Evelina China.

"Although she had recently retired she still came into the pub a few times a week to see everyone and catch up as she missed not working there and seeing everyone.

"She was also in a ladies darts team and competed with them. We thought we should lay flowers outside the pub as it was her second home and unfortunately a lot of us cannot go to her funeral so thought this would be the best way to pay our respects.

"She loved doing a bit of the karaoke on a Friday night and her favourite was to sing 'Downtown' by Petula Clark.

"Eveline will be extremely missed by everyone in The Vic, including the barmaids and the customers.

"She was brought up in Partick and was very well known and she would just love the fact you were paying tribute to her. She would be tickled pink".

Eveline is survived by her son Richard, his wife Alison, granddaughter Amy and partner Stuart.
