Floral tributes on Glasgow street for 'beautiful' five-year-old boy killed in tragic bus crash

Floral tributes have been laid in memory of a 'beautiful' five-year-old schoolboy who died in a horror crash in Glasgow.

Police and paramedics were called to Calder Street, near the Hickman Street junction, around 5.40pm on Tuesday, April 4, following reports of a road traffic collision involving two children.

A boy was treated at the scene by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. A nine-year-old girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children.

The road was closed by police for six hours to allow investigations to take place. Now, touching tributes have been paid to the youngster on the gates of Holy Cross Primary school and near the scene of the crash.

One person wrote: "Fly with the angels, beautiful boy."

Another tribute read: "My deepest condolences during this tragic time for your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers."

A third note read: "They whom we love and lost are no longer where they were before. They are now wherever we are."

We previously reported that First Bus had issued a statement after one of their vehicles was confirmed to be involved in the collision.

A spokesperson from First said: "We can confirm that one of our buses was involved in the incident on Calder Street on Tuesday evening.

"A full investigation into the circumstances is now underway, and we are working closely with Police Scotland.

"The thoughts of everyone at First Bus are with all those involved and affected by this incident."

A passerby, who'd just finished work and was walking home on Tuesday evening, described the harrowing scenes and recalled people in tears.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash or anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Sgt Nicolas Twigg said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened and we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash and saw what happened to get in touch.

“In addition, if you have dash-cam that could help with our crash investigation then please contact us.

"Anyone who can assist is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2648 of Tuesday, April 4."
