Floral tributes line bridge after teenager falls to death near Wallasey Tunnel

Floral tributes have been laid for a 19-year-old man who near the Wallasey Tunnel .

Dozens of bouquets of flowers lined the footbridge not far from the entrance to the tunnel, from which the teenager is thought to have fallen, on Tuesday morning.

On tributes left at the scene, friends and loved ones wrote messages dedicated to the teenager, named locally as Daniel Fleming, and for his family.

One tribute reads: "RIP young man. Thoughts are with your family and friends."

Another read: "RIP Dan. Love you always."

Police were called to the scene on Oakdale Road just after 7am yesterday morning.

The man's tragic death resulted in the closure of the Wallasey Tunnel for several hours on Monday morning.

The man is thought to have lived in Wallasey , not far from the tunnel.

The death has been referred to a coroner and a inquest is set to be opened later this week.

Yesterday morning, the teenager was treated at the scene and was rushed to hospital with "serious injuries".

Sadly he was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Friends and people who knew Daniel took to Facebook to pay tribute.

One local said that the teenager was "always smiling and polite" and that he was "such a lovely young man".

On Facebook, readers extended their sympathies to the teenager's family.

One user wrote: "So sorry to your family, thinking of you all.

"I feel for the [the] young man and his family it's going to be a tough time for the family.

"I hope you all get good support."

Another said: "Very sad news.

"When are they going to cover these footbridges and fence off road bridges in high risk areas in order to stop things like this happening?"

Merseyside Police and the city coroner are currently investigating the man's death.
