Floral tributes left at scene where quad biker was killed after crash

Floral tributes have been left at the scene of a crash where a man driving a quad bike on a Cardiff road. The 34-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene on Cowbridge Road East in the Canton area of Cardiff shortly before 5pm on Monday, August 8.

The man's next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by officers. Flowers, candles, cards, and written messages have been left around a stone distance marker on Cowbridge Road East. One tribute reads: "Rest in peace. Fly high."

Emergency services attended the scene on Monday, with multiple police and Welsh Ambulance Service vehicles at the incident, as well as firefighters. The crash involved a green and black Yamaha quad bike.

The road was closed and cordoned off for several hours whilst multi-agency teams worked to investigate the collision. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Debbie Hobrough said: “South Wales Police was called to reports of a road traffic collision on Cowbridge Road East, between Leckwith Road and Llandaff Road, Cardiff, at around 5pm yesterday Monday, August 8.

"The collision involved a green and black Yamaha quad bike. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the driver of the quad bike, a 34-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene. His next of kin is aware and is being supported by officers. The road was closed for several hours while officers carried out investigations at the scene. It has since been reopened.

"South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward - they are also asking people who were driving in the area to check their dashcams for footage which may assist.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called yesterday 08 August just before 5pm to reports of a road traffic accident on Cowbridge Road in Cardiff. It was a multi-agency response with South Wales Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in attendance. We deployed three rapid response vehicles, an emergency ambulance, the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service and were supported by pre-hospital immediate care specialists from MEDSERVE Wales."
