Floral tributes left at scene where man, 46, died after being hit by car

Floral tributes have been left at the scene where a man died after being hit by a car in east Manchester.

The 46-year-old was struck by a blue Seat Ibiza at the junction of Ashton New Road and Clayton Street in Clayton shortly before 7am on Easter Sunday (April 4).

He was rushed to hospital after the crash, but was sadly pronounced dead.

A bunch of flowers has been tied to a lamp post on Ashton New Road. Another bunch has been placed on the floor.

Police have also placed a sign at the scene urging witnesses to come forward.

The man has not yet been named.

Greater Manchester Police said they are trying to find his next of kin.

After the crash, the driver of the Seat Ibiza remained at the scene to assist officers.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

The road was closed between the junctions for North Road and Canberra Street by 1.30pm.

Diversions were put place.

Pictures from the scene showed a badly-damaged Seat Ibiza in the centre of the road, close to The Grove Inn pub.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Sergeant Matthew Waggett of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are very much with family and loved ones of the man who has sadly died this morning.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate his next of kin.

"We appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of this collision to come forward and speak with police.

"We're particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or is in possession of dash-cam footage from the area at the time."
