Floral tributes laid at Bristol harbourside after man dies at Merchants Quay

Flowers and a photo have been laid next to Bristol's floating harbour following a young man's death.

Police divers retrieved a body two weeks ago on the afternoon of Friday, April 16, along the stretch of water at Merchants Quay.

While formal identification had not taken place at the time, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the family of Connor Upton had been informed of the development.

Officers had launched a missing persons appeal that morning to find Connor.

The 27-year-old, from Bishopsworth, had disappeared near Merchants Quay two evenings prior.

A large pile of flowers has since been left at the scene by his loved ones, along with a sign hand-painted with the name 'Upton'.

An A4 print-out image of a man understood to be Connor has also been attached to the railings in his memory.

People walking past today (Friday, April 30) could be seen respectfully pausing to take in the tributes.

The poignant public display follows a series of heartfelt comments shared on social media following the tragic discovery.

Police did not provide any information about the circumstances, but confirmed that the death was being treated as "unexplained but not suspicious".
