NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The floodwater on Highway 2 between Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen has receded, allowing traffic to return to normal, highway police reported.

Flooding on a 5-kilometre section of Highway 2 -- from the Talad Khae intersection in Non Sung district to the Ban Wat intersection in Khong district -- began on Friday when the embankment of the Lam Chiang Krai reservoir in Non Thai district ruptured, allowing water to flow out.

That part of the highway was submerged under water 40-50 centimetres deep and became impassable to small vehicles.

As of 3am on Sunday, the floodwater had receded and traffic returned to normal, but the highway was left badly damaged.

Officials from the highway office of Nakhon Ratchasima had examined the damage for further repairs, police said.
