Floodwater in Chai Nat decays

CHAI NAT: The floodwater which has inundated seven tambons in Sapphaya district for over two weeks has decayed, sending foul smells and becoming breeding ground for mosquitoes and insects.

The seven tambons are Taluk, Sapphaya, Bang Luang, Hat Asa, Khao Kaew, Pho Nangdam Ok and Pho Nangdam Tok.

Villagers in the seven tambon said the water has turned green and black and is sending foul smells of decayed organic plants.  The decayed water has also become a source of mosquitoes and insects.

Peope have developed rashes and are sufferring from foot-decaying diseases after wading the water.

Prapas Wandia, the Sapphaya district chief, said he had order medical teams and officials responsible for the environment to affected areas.

Initially, EM balls will be dropped into the decayed water to reduce smells.  Water propulsion machines will also be used to help circulate the water to reduce the pollution.
