Floods wash away devastated couple's cottage and kill their pets on wedding day

A couple have been left devastated their cottage washed away in a flood on their wedding day.

On the day Joshua and fiancee Sarah should have been getting married, their home was destroyed by a deluge in Mondrook in New South Wales, Australia.

The couple's pets were also tragically killed as their rented home was lifted from its foundations by surging floodwaters, before it washed down the river.

Lyle Edge, Joshua's brother, said the couple lost their “entire home” and launched a GoFundMe to raise money for the stricken pair.

So more than $38,389 (£20,000) has been given by sympathetic donors.

Officials in Australia have warned residents of “life threatening” flash floods.

According to reports, the river swelled to the highest levels the area has seen in 40 years and left trees submerged.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned of "major flooding" and issued an evacuation order for residents.

It tweeted: “Flood waters in Port Macquarie are creating hazards for locals as large parts of NSW continue to be impacted by heavy rainfall.”

“What was suppose to be their wedding day ended up with them losing the house they were renting and everything they have work hard for and sadly losing their pets as well.

“We are trying to raise money to help them start again, anything would be much appreciated.”

Flood warnings have been put in place across western Sydney.

WaterNSW warned dams around Sydney could overflow over the weekend.

Up to 4inches of rain is forecast, with as much as 11inches set for the west of the province.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison wrote on Facebook : “The federal government stands ready to provide whatever assistance is needed, including from the ADF.”
