Floods close railway line between Glasgow and Edinburgh - disruption expected

Heavy rain across Scotland is causing chaos for travellers.

ScotRail have announced that main line between Glasgow and Edinburgh has been closed as a result of heavy flooding.

At around 8.15pm they wrote on Twitter : "Heavy rain has flooded the railway at Winchburgh, between Linlithgow & Edinburgh.

"The line has been closed.

"This affects our Edinburgh – Glasgow Queen Street High Level and Edinburgh – Dunblane services.

"Staff are on site now monitoring the flooding."

Trains heading between the two cities are especially busy in August with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival being held throughout the month.

Those looking to travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh are being urged to use the Edinburgh - Helensburgh Central service, which calls via Glasgow Queen Street Low Level.

It comes amid torrential downpours for much of the country.

Earlier, Network Rail shared footage of flooding at Crianlarich Railway Station in Perthshire on Sunday, with tracks completely covered by water.
