Floodlight drama at Vale Park puts Sunderland Carabao Cup fixture on hold

Sunderland's Carabao Cup First Round fixture against Port Vale was briefly paused as a result of floodlight failure at Vale Park.

The game was stopped for around five minutes after the floodlights in one corner of the ground went out on 70th minute mark.

Referee Sam Allison took his time to assess whether the fixture was still playable with around 20 minutes of the game remaining.

Goals from Josh Hawkes and Aiden O'Brien had given Sunderland the lead before Jamie Proctor pulled one back moments before the lights went out.
