Flooding shuts Swansea secondary school for the rest of the week

A Swansea secondary school is to close for the rest of the week after suffering water damage during the recent heavy rainfall.

Flooding at Bishopston Comprehensive in Gower has meant the school has had to turn off its electricity supply to significant parts of the building, while urgent repairs are carried out to the roof.

Ten classrooms have suffered water damage, as well as the school’s library.

Other parts of the building continue to be assessed for damage or other related issues.

Some people have opted for other forms of transport due to the recent flooding:

One parent said: "My child is jubilant, but it is going to cause me problems.

"I am working so I'll have to look for alternative arrangements and I don't have a lot of options".

Head teacher Jeff Bird added: “We have reluctantly taken the decision to close Bishopston Comprehensive school for the rest of this week.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this is going to cause but rest assured we are doing all we can to resolve the issues as quickly as possible with the aim of re-opening next week.

“We will be updating our social media channels and website to keep you informed.”
