Flooding possible in North East with more wind and heavy rain warnings over the weekend

The North East has been warned to brace itself for further flooding and windy weather at the weekend.

Another two weather warnings have been released for our region, following on from Storm Dennis and Storm Ciara over the last two weekends.

A third weekend of wet and windy weather is expected although the latest weather front has not been named as a storm.

After a weather warning for wind on Friday between 8am and 8pm there will be another day of blustery weather on Saturday.

Strong winds are expected between 6am and 10pm, along with heavy, squally showers, which are expected to cause travel disruption.

While not all areas in the warning zone will see the strongest winds, gusts of 55-65mph are expected in places.

Showers on Saturday will fall as a mixture of rain, hail and sleet, with some snow expected on higher ground.

Winds will then gradually ease through the evening on Saturday.

A yellow warning for rain is then in place on Monday for parts of County Durham and Northumberland.

The Met Office has warned that there is a chance of flooding between midnight and 3pm.

There is a risk that homes and businesses could be flooded and some roads could be closed because of surface water.

Rainfall totals of 15-25mm are likely with 40-60mm possible over hills.

Temperatures should stay steady with highs around 7-9C with Sunday looking like the best day of the weekend.
