
Flooding persists in 12 provinces, with 233,180 people affected by the floods that have claimed 18 lives over the last month.
Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department director-general Chaiyaphol Thitisak said on Thursday that heavy rain brought by a tropical depression had triggered flash floods, runoff and river overflows in 23 provinces between Oct 10 and Nov 9.
A total of 126,390 households in 2,825 villages were affected and 18 people had died as a consequence of flooding.
Flooding remained in 12 provinces, including Prachuap Khiri Khan which was recently hit, with 233,180 people affected.
The other 11 affected provinces were - one along the Yom and Nan rivers (Phichit province), four along the Chao Phraya River (Nakhon Sawan, Sin Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya), one on the Tha Cheen River (Suphan Buri), five along the Chi River (Nong Bua Lam Phu, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin and Roi Et), said Mr Chaiyaphol.
In Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thap Sakae and Bang Saphan districts were hit. Patients at Bang Saphan Hospital were evacuated on Wednesday after the upper southern province was battered by heavy rain for more than 10 hours.
Mr Chaiyaphol said the department is working closely with military units and local authorities in Prachuap Khiri Khan to evacuate affected people. Temporary shelters were set up and water pumps installed to help drain the flood water to main rivers.
In Ayutthaya, 11 districts have been flooded, affecting 68,915 households.
Provincial governor Sujin Chaichumsak said on Thursday that 11 out of the 16 districts in the central province were inundated and 205,061 people in 868 villages affected.
The floodwaters were receding by 5-7cm a day, said Mr Sujin.
