Flooding on Maryhill Road sees car stuck in middle of the road

Flooding on Maryhill Road is causing issues for commuters travelling on Maryhill Road.

Several motorists have this morning warned other drivers about a large area of flooding on Maryhill Road, near to the West of Scotland Science Park.

Meanwhile, following multiple reports of a vehicle being stuck in the middle of the road as a result of the flooding, John Gemmell shared a photo of the incident, picturing a Mini in the water, with other cars having to steer onto the lane divider to avoid collision.

Furthermore, the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for rain, in place between noon and 3pm tomorrow.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) advise a flood alert is in place in Glasgow, warning: "There is a risk of localised flooding from rivers and surface water during this time. This may result in flooding of low-lying land and roads, travel disruption, and flooding affecting individual properties."

The Met Office say their weather warning will affect most of Scotland, with their forecast for the weekend advising: "An area of heavy rain is expected to become slow-moving across much of Scotland, especially affecting western and central hills."

And they say that means:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  •
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  •
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

And after the heavy rain we're told to expect the sunshine to return on Saturday night and Sunday, though it will be cloudy and pretty mild, with temperatures of around 15C and scattered showers.
