Flooding on East Coast of US kills two

  • Two women died in Plainfield, New Jersey, after being swept off a road and trapped in their car during severe flash flooding on Monday night.
  • The unnamed women are believed to have drowned as rescuers were unable to reach their vehicle due to the ferocity of the storm.
  • Both New Jersey and New York states declared a state of emergency as the severe storms battered the region, causing widespread disruption.
  • The flash flooding also impacted New York City, where parts of the subway system were inundated, and dozens of flights were delayed or cancelled at area airports.
  • By Tuesday morning, the subway system was fully operational, though some roads remained closed across both states as recovery efforts continued.
