Flooding fears across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as Met Office issues 24-hour rain warning

After a week of unpredictable weather the Met Office has issued yet another weather warning, with heavy rainfall predicted to hit the city soon. 

A 24-hour warning for rain has been issued , a week after 35C heat baked the area. 

Two warnings for thunder have already been issued for this week. 

The warning is in place from 12am until 23.59pm (Wednesday July 31).

Flooding is a risk across the county as well as poor driving conditions and potential delays to public transport.  

What to expect? 

The Met Office has issued a list of what to expect from the heavy rain - it includes:  

  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures  
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible

  • Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings

  • Possible power cuts due to flooding or lightning
