Flooding expected in Edinburgh and Lothians with heavy rain set to arrive at midnight

Flooding is expected in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife in the coming hours with heavy rain set to arrive at midnight.

Large parts of the country are braced for wet weather with transport disruption likely.

The Met Office has already issued a yellow weather warning which runs from midnight until 6pm on Sunday. They say that spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer while some communities could even become cut off by flooded roads.

Homes and businesses could also be affected by flood water while there may be interruption to power supplies and other services.

Forecasters reckon Edinburgh should get heavy rain for around 12 hours straight from midnight before the showers ease off in the early afternoon.

We'll bring you further updates on Sunday's flood alert as we get them.
