Flooding closes car park at Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Park

Flooding at the entrance to the car park at Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Park means shoppers will likely not be able to park there for the rest of today.

Storm Dennis brought heavy rain and winds as predicted, just one week on from the chaos of Storm Ciara. Kirkstall was one area badly hit, with similar scenes to the floods of Boxing Day 2015.

River levels remain high, including along the River Aire, but the Environment Agency has confirmed that the moveable weirs in Leeds city centre were activated and managed to reduce levels by up to 30cm.

At Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Centre the car park was cordoned off at around 1.30am this morning and is likely to stay closed for most of today.

Barriers have been put up around the perimeter to protect businesses and all road entrances are cordoned off.

More rain is expected throughout the morning but shops are expected to remain open as usual.
