Flooding chaos near Edinburgh Airport sees cars submerged as heavy rain hits Scotland

Travellers heading to and from Edinburgh Airport may face travel chaos tonight after flash flooding hit the area.

Footage shows an underpass at the exit to the A8 , one of the main roads connected to the airport, hit by severe flooding with some cars stuck in high waters.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 7pm on Wednesday.

There were reports of one man needing assistance out of his flooded car.

The shock footage shows water reaching high up to the side of the cars.

A cyclist can also be seen battling through the flooding as he attempts to make it to the other side.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in the area dealing with the incident, however could not confirm any other details.

On Twitter, Edinburgh Airport advised people to plan ahead.

They wrote: "The heavy rain has affected road around the airport, please check your onward travel options to and from the airport."

ScotRail earlier announced that main line between Glasgow and Edinburgh has been closed.

Services from Edinburgh – Glasgow Queen Street High Level and Edinburgh – Dunblane were affected.

However they later updated that Glasgow-bound trains from Edinburgh were slowly moving again - but delays remained in place.
