Flooding affects some southern trains

Flooding on Friday blocked southern trains on two sections of track in Nakhon Sri Thammarat and Trang but services on the main southern route continued as usual.

Heavy rain made the track impassable from Thung Song station to Nakhon Sri Thammarat station, and floodwater also covered the line to Trang and Kantang stations in Trang province, said Anont Lueangboriboon, acting governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

The SRT deployed buses to transport passengers on the affected routes to their destinations. They were made available to passengers on trains normally running on the Bangkok-Trang, Bangkok-Nakhon Sri Thammarat and Bangkok-Kantang routes.

The water was 40 centimetres deep at the Thi Wang station on the way to Trang and between the Khok Khram and Nakhon Sri Thammarat stations on Friday.

Adisak Kaewsongmuang, chief of the Nakhon Sri Thammarat station, said services on the main line were continuing but officials were monitoring conditions.

Flooding was reported in tambon Thi Wang in Thung Song district between the Thung Song and Kantang stations, and in Khao Chum Thong, Ban Thung Lo and Khok Khram in Ron Phibhun and Chalerm Phrakiat districts between the Thung Song and Nakhon Sri Thammarat stations.
