Residents in North Queensland have been warned that the danger of flash flooding has not passed after days of intense rain filled rivers and left parts of the region saturated.
State Emergency Service Director Brian Cox told ABC News that North and Central Qld had seen the tail end of ex-Tropical Cyclone Imogen, but more thunderstorms were predicted in the region on Thursday.
"We've already got high rivers, we've already got water inundation in those areas, it won't take much for those storms to affect flash flooding and that's still our major concern at this particular point in time," he said.
Areas of South East Queensland also saw heavy falls in the past 24 hours with some parts receiving more than 100mm of rainfall in an hour.
Mr Cox said that across the state the SES had received 85 calls for assistance, with more than 50 coming from the south east.
A number of flood warnings remain in place and The Bureau has advised The Herbert River in North Queensland is likely to remain about the major flood level on Thursday.
