Nov. 28--The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning over the next few days for areas by the Des Plaines River near Gurnee and other parts of Lake County.
The warning for Gurnee extends through Tuesday. By 2 p.m. Friday, the river had nearly reached the 7-foot flood stage and is expected to continue to rise to near 7 feet, 3 inches by Saturday morning, according to the service.
Police had no reports of flooding early Friday.
"Time will tell," said Charles Mott, meteorologist for the weather service. "In southern Wisconsin, their rainfall was up around 2 inches also, so some of that could flow south."
The river had hit the flood stage near Russell Road in Wadsworth, Mott said.
A flood advisory also was issued through Saturday evening for the Des Plaines in Lincolnshire.
At 3:45 a.m. Friday, water levels had reached 10 feet, and were forecast to rise to near 12 feet, 1 inches by Saturday morning. Flood stage is 12 feet, 5 inches, when water begins to overflow onto Londonderry Lane.
Farther south into Cook County, officials in the city of Des Plaines have closed Campground Road near Miner Street because of flooding, police said. But they say that is a common occurrence and the road is not heavily traveled.
Flooding is also expected from the Fox River, affecting Lake County in Illinois and Kenosha County in Wisconsin.
In addition, a flood advisory remains in effect along the lakeshore in Cook County and northwest Indiana, where gusting 40-mph winds were expected to result in waves of up to 15 feet, according to the weather service.
"This likely will produce minor flooding of the typically flood-prone areas along the immediate lakefront," according to the weather advisory. "Waves will slowly subside tonight."
Drivers are advised to avoid flooded streets.
