Flood warning in place for Ayrshire as rain batters Scotland

A flood warning is in place across Ayrshire for the rest of today.

SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) has issued the alert following the arrival of a heavy band of rain on the west coast of Scotland.

Strong winds are also battering Ayrshire with gusts of up to 60mph recorded this afternoon.

SEPA say: "We are expecting a spell of very wet and windy weather during Tuesday and into Wednesday.

"Heavy and persistent rain is likely to lead to some disruption due to flooding in some areas.

"River levels and watercourses are expected to rise but may not be as high as those seen over the weekend.

"The situation is set to improve later on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.
