Flood warning for River Glaze as water level rises following heavy downpours

A flood warning has been issued for the River Glaze as the water level rises following heavy downpours.

Officials are monitoring the situation at the river, which runs through Leigh and Wigan.

Residents are being warned that flooding is possible in low lying areas.

More rain is forecast throughout the day, with a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in place until 9pm.

"River levels are rising on the River Glaze due to heavy rainfall," the flood warning states.

"Areas most at risk include low lying land and roads around Moss, Hey, Bedford and Borsdane Brooks and their tributaries.

"Flooding is possible at low lying land and roads around Moss, Hey, Bedford and Borsdane Brooks and their tributaries from 09:00 AM on 08/08/2021.

"Further heavy rainfall is forecast throughout the morning.

"River levels are expected to remain high.

"We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

"Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water."
