Flood warning as heavy rain to batter Scotland over weekend

A flood warning has been issued for north east Scotland as heavy rain is expected to batter the country over the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with up to 80mm of rain expected to fall in some places.

Heavy and persistent rain is due to start on Saturday afternoon around 4pm and last until 9am on Sunday, November 24.

Scots can expect flooding of a few home and businesses, bus and train could be affected and spray and water on roads will make journey times longer.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Persistent and occasionally heavy rain is expected to develop across northeastern Scotland from Saturday afternoon.

"Rainfall accumulations of generally 20-40 mm are likely through Aberdeenshire, Angus, parts of Tayside, Fife, Easter Ross and Caithness, with potentially 60-80 mm across some high ground in addition to a gradual thaw of snow. Rain clearing to the north Sunday morning."

Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross will be most affected as well as Aberdeen and the Highlands.
