Engineering consultancy firm M-EC has made a senior appointment to its Leicestershire-based flood risk and drainage team.
The firm has recruited Hardeep Rai as an associate flood risk engineer to its Hugglescote office, near Coalville.
A former flood risk management officer with Nottinghamshire County Council, Warwickshire County Council and The Environment Agency, Hardeep has considerable experience in flood risk and surface water management, sustainable drainage and planning.
He said: "I’ve worked on the other side of the table for many years but now I’m in this role, I hope to help shape sites to be more sustainable by managing water effectively.
"Flooding, or even just the threat of it, can have such a huge impact on people’s lives, as we saw in Whaley Bridge over the summer, and if we, as engineers, can help to reduce the risk and limit the impact on the environment, then we’re doing our bit."
Hardeep’s appointment comes as the threat of climate change and its associated impacts are having a larger effect on development feasibility, with a greater need for engineers to quantify the impacts of flood risk and to manage these increased risks.
Eddie Mewies, managing director for M-EC said: "Hardeep’s knowledge of flood risk strategy is vast and he'll be a great addition to the team.
