Flood shuts down Ayrshire A&E unit with patients diverted to Crosshouse Hospital

Flooding has shut down an Ayrshire A&E department this evening.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran bosses say that patients are currently being diverted from the unit at Ayr Hospital.

Patients with medical emergencies are instead being instructed to go to Crosshouse Hospital.

A statement reads: "Due to a flood in the emergency department at University Hospital Ayr, we are having to divert patients from the unit.

"If you need medical care but it is not an emergency, please call NHS24 on 111.

"For emergencies only, call 999 or go to University Hospital Crosshouse.

"Please remember the unit will be extremely busy and so only come if it is an emergency.

"We will provide further information as it comes."
