A London carpenter who found himself homeless after his mum was taken ill has received a flood of job offers and donations.
The man, known only as Lee, has been on the streets for four months after losing his mother. He was pictured on London Bridge by Facebook page Humans of London last week.
The fully qualified carpenter said: “I’m not a lazy person, I don’t do drugs and I very rarely drink.
"As soon as I get a front door I’ll get back into work and then maybe I’ll help others too.”
A donation page was set up to try and help Lee start afresh and many people came forward with job offers.
Fiona Sail was one person who offered him a job. She said: “Please contact me when he is able to work again, I run a small building company.”
The GoFundMe page has also helped get Lee back on his feet has by raising over £2,000.
Lee said he started doing labouring work after his tools were stolen from a shed. When his mum became ill he left his flat in Brixton and moved back in with her.
He added: “But my landlord wouldn’t give me back my deposit and month-in-advance. £3,200 that was. Just because I’d replaced the rotten front door myself as he wouldn’t so it. I had a little bit saved up but that pretty much wiped me out. “
After the death of his mother, Lee was forced to leave and sleep on friends’ couches and said he started sleeping on the streets four months ago.
He said: “Being here teaches you not to judge, to treat others the way you want to be treated, and to never give up, no matter how hard it gets.”
His story touched people who came across it on the page.
One person wrote: “I want to help the bloke get back on his feet, hopefully if I was in his position someone would help me. Good luck Lee.”
“I donated because most of us are only a small step away from this situation,” another added.
Another wrote: “This could honestly be any of us. Time to do some good in the world when the world seems so bad.”
