Flood-hit Perth and Kinross Council HQ to stay closed until October

Perth and Kinross Council’s headquarters will remain closed until October.

The historic Perth building suffered “extensive flooding” during last August’s thunderstorm.

Repairs were expected to be completed by June 2021 but PKC has told the Perthshire Advertiser this has been delayed four months.

Flash flooding in August 2020 saw the worst flooding in the region since 1993.

Over 200 properties in the region were flooded internally - including PKC’s headquarters at 2 High Street, Perth.

PKC spent £10 million renovating General Accident’s former headquarters only a few years ago with the works completed in 2016.

Repair works for damage caused by last year’s floods are still said to be “ongoing.”

A spokesperson for PKC told the PA: “Repair works and upgrade works to our offices at 2 High Street in Perth are still ongoing.

“Along with the repairs and upgrade works throughout the building we are upgrading the recording equipment used in committee meetings.

“As well as allowing for a better user experience and more reliable connectivity; the new functionality will also allow integration with Microsoft Teams for hybrid committee meetings which we will continue to broadcast live.

“We anticipate that the building should be accessible for staff before the end of October this year assuming no unavoidable delays occur.”
