Flood alerts issued across Newcastle, Durham and Northumberland following heavy rain

Flood warnings have been put in place across the North East following a day of torrential rain that caused disruption across the region.

Public transport systems were severely affected, including the Metro which suspended several services. The opening of Newcastle's Winter Wonderland was also cancelled.

The Met Office had issued a yellow alert, which ended on Friday morning. According to the forecast, the rain is likely to ease off over the weekend, though showers should still be expected.

  • River Team
  • River Don
  • Lower River Wear
  • Ouse Burn
  • River Pont
  • River Blyth
  • River Coquet
  • River Wansbeck

The Environment Agency says that members of the public should "avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water".
