Flood alerts as thunder and heavy rain to batter Britain - forecast in your area

Heavy rain and thunder are set to hit England with Brits braced for a week of wet weather.

Flood alerts are in place across the country as southern areas will see the worst of the rain storms.

Despite the downpour, temperatures will reach a humid 23C in parts of the South East of England and Scotland.

The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for rain in Wales, the South West of England as well as London and the South East until 10am this morning,

A yellow warning is also in place for thunderstorms in the south of England from midday to 10pm today thanks to an area of high pressure over the UK.

Scattered torrential thundery downpours could flood roads and there is a "small chance" that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, according to the Met Office forecast.

The yellow warning for thunderstorms means trains and bus services could be cancelled or delayed and there is a "slight chance" of power cuts.

Mr Keats said: "For the rest of the week it looks as though high pressure will stick around, influencing the weather over much of northern and central Britain and Ireland, but southern England, and particularly the South East, will remain at risk of further showers.

"With a broadly easterly flow, North Sea coasts will often be cooler and sometimes cloudier, with the best of the sunshine and the warmth in the sheltered west."
