Flood alert issued for Scotland as heavy rain set to batter country

A flood warning has been issued for five regions across Scotland as heavy rain is set to sweep across the country.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued alerts for West Central Scotland - which includes Glasgow , Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire - is one of the areas likely to be affected by flooding.

Ayrshire and Arran, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City, Dundee and Angus and Findhorn, Nairn, Moray and Speyside have also been hit with alerts.

Drivers are being urged to take care on the roads as conditions may be difficult to travel in.

The SEPA alert reads: "Locally heavy rain may affect the area on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday.

"Localised flooding of low lying land and roads from surface water and smaller watercourses is possible."

It added: "Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."

Yesterday about the dangers of driving on roads with standing water after a horrific crash on the M8.

Police Scotland issued a warning about driving styles after the crash (Police Scotland)

Officers from Police Scotland took to social media yesterday showing the aftermath of the smash near junction two in Edinburgh.

It showed a car which flipped over after it aquaplaned on the carriageway.

As a result of the crash the exterior and inferior of the black vehicle were severely damaged.

Thankfully the driver wasn't seriously injured in the incident
