Flooding is expected in parts of Bristol today as heavy rain triggers a "large tidal surge".
The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the tidal River Avon at Bristol, Pill and Shirehampton.
It came into force yesterday evening and remains in place today (Wednesday, December 16), and people have been urged to take care when navigating the at-risk areas.
The alert reads: "A large tidal surge is expected to over-top sea defences as a result of high tides.
"Areas most at risk are the tidal River Avon from Sea Mills to Conham in Bristol and between the Avonmouth Bridge and Shirehampton Park including Pill and Shirehampton.
"We are deploying tide gangs to keep an eye on the tidal response.
"Please be careful along beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths and roads."
High tide at Avonmouth last night was expected to measure 7.31 mAOD (metres above ordnance datum), which is the water level compared to the mean sea level.
High tide this morning was expected to reach 7.41 mAOD by 8am.
The alert states: "Flooding to roads and farmland is possible at these times, however conditions may apply two hours either side of the high tide."
Heavy rain has been falling across Bristol throughout this morning, and is not expected to stop until 1pm according to Met Office forecasters.
According to the Met's rainfall map, most areas of the city (as of 9.30am) were seeing between two and four millimetres of rain per hour, with some small pockets of the city seeing between four and eight.
