Flood alert in place for parts of Nottinghamshire along River Trent

A flood alert has been issued for parts of Nottinghamshire as river levels have risen at Lowdham.

According to the Government's flood alert website, levels are high at Lowdham Grange river gauge "as a result of persistent heavy rainfall."

At this stage, the flooding of properties is not being predicted.

As of just before 3pm on December 23, the alert states: "Areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads around the tributaries of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck, Thurgarton Beck and others.

"Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point."

Further rainfall is expected over the next 12 hours with river levels expected to remain high until tomorrow morning (December 24).

The situation is being "closely monitored" with teams patrolling watercourses in the area.

Advising local residents, the alert added: "Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

There will be updates to follow on Thursday morning from the Government flood website or as the situation changes.
