Flood alert activated north of Leeds as torrential rain hits West Yorkshire

Residents living in Wetherby and surrounding areas are being warned of high river levels due to persistant rainfall.

As shown in the map image above, the alert is in place due to high river levels on the lower River Nidd around Skip Bridge, expected to remain into Wednesday.

Flooding to low-lying land and roads is possible and people are being told to "avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid driving through any floodwater".

are also currently active across Leeds, and will be in place until 6am tomorrow (Thursday).

The Weather Channel forecasts a 100% chance of rain throughout Wedneday, with highs of 9C.
