Floating Miller and Carter steakhouse sinks into lake at shopping centre

A FLOATING steakhouse has partially sunk into a lake.

Bosses of Miller and Carter say they are issuing refunds after the restaurant, which is housed in a repurposed paddle steamer began sinking into the artificial lake on Friday morning.

The popular restaurant at Lakeside Shopping Centre, near Grays in Essex, has been shut due to the incident.

An Essex County fire service spokesperson told the BBC that no one was in the restaurant and that crews were not required to attend after they were informed of the incident at 11am.

A spokesperson for Miller and Carter Lakeside, said: “We are aware of the situation at our lakeside restaurant. Regrettably, due to the scale of damage we were forced to close immediately.

“Our priority is our guests, and our teams are working hard to contact everyone who holds a booking with us to inform them of the unforeseeable incident and issue refunds as quickly as possible.”

In a post on Facebook, the branch said it would be closed "until further notice due to structural issues".
