Lake Macquarie was aglow with lights on Friday night as Float Your Boat made a return after a year's hiatus due to COVID-19.
More than 5000 people made their way to the waterfront on the western side of the lake to catch a sight of the flotilla of illuminated vessels glide along the water on Friday night.
The second night of the event on Saturday, which was set to be staged at the eastern edge of the lake had to be cancelled several days out due to inclement weather, with strong winds and rain predicted for the evening.
About 20 boats cruised along the western side of the lake, making their way from Marmong Point down to Bolton Point, Toronto, Coal Point and Rathmines before finishing at Wangi.
The main festivities took place at Toronto foreshore, where there was live music, magic shows, illuminated art installations, children's activities and food trucks.
A community bonfire and live entertainment was also staged at Wangi Wangi.
"It was a really wonderful evening, and fantastic to see so many families lining the shore all the way from Marmong Point to Wangi Wangi," Lake Macquarie City Council manager arts, culture and tourism Jacqui Hemsley said.
"After COVID forced the cancellation last year it was great to be ale to bring our community together again for the event."
Participating boats are in the running to win a $2000 People's Choice Award, a $1000 Mayor's Best Boat Award for vessels 5-10m, and a $1000 Mayor's Best Boat Award for vessels over 10m.
Fans can go in the running to win a $100 gift card by casting a vote for their favourite boat.
