Flintshire business park expansion could create more than 200 jobs

Plans are set to be submitted for a major expansion of a business park in Flintshire in a move that could create more than 200 jobs.

Redsun Projects have agreed to acquire a 10-acre site next to the existing Hawarden Business Park from Welsh Government.

The park is adjacent to the Airbus wing factory and has been developed by Welsh Government with a focus on high-tech manufacturing and aerospace.

The new site is currently subject to agricultural uses but is zoned for employment use in the Flintshire County Council Local Development Plan and a consultation is due to launch this month ahead of a planning application.

Welsh Government has agreed to provide funding support for the development which will see a first phase of 60,000sqft of industrial/logistics space delivering across four units, while future phases can accommodate a further 80,000sqft.

Construction could start in early 2021 if planning is secured.

Nick Wightman, director, Redsun Projects: “This site fits our development model perfectly and we are confident that well designed units in this location will prove to be very popular indeed.

“The Welsh Government have been proactive in supporting our ambitions for this site and we look forward to delivering a high quality product in this prominent location.”

Ken Skates, Minister for Economy and North Wales, added: “It’s good to see this development by Redsun progress, and I’m pleased it is moving forward with Welsh Government assistance.

“It is on a key site in the Deeside Enterprise Zone and investments like this will be a key feature as we build back better in North Wales following the Covid-19 outbreak which has had such a significant impact on the economy.”

Legat Owen and Cushman & Wakefield are instructed agents on the development while the planning agent is Cadnant Planning.
