Flights to Sharm el Sheikh from Manchester Airport back on sale after four-year ban

Just 10 days after the UK Foreign Office lifted the travel ban, holiday firm TUI has announced that holidays to Sharm El Sheikh are now back on sale.

Travellers will be able to book flights to the popular Egyption resort from Thursday, November 7, 2019 with flights available from Manchester Airport.

The first flights will depart in February 2020.

The holiday firm will fly initially from Manchester, Birmingham and Gatwick.

Julian Carr, Aviation Director at Manchester Airport, said: “We’re delighted that TUI will be bringing Sharm El Sheikh back to the airport’s departure boards. It’s a hugely popular destination all year round and I’m confident it will be very successful.”

Mark Hall, Director of Product and Destination Experience TUI UK & Ireland said: "Sharm el Sheikh was always a hugely popular destination and I am delighted to confirm that we are reintroducing the Egypt favourite to our Winter 2019 and Summer 2020 programmes.

"In response to customer demand, our first flights will operate from February 2020 and our resorts are all looking forward to welcoming our customers back."

Flights to and from the Red Sea resort had been suspended after a St Petersburg-bound flight crashed in Northern Sinai in October 2015.

All 224 passengers and crew on board were killed by an on board bomb, planted at Sharm-El- Sheikh.

The UK Government said it had been working with the Egyptian authorities to enable flights to resume with restrictions finally lifted last month.

An estimated 415,000 Brits visited Egypt in 2018 and most visits were trouble-free, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said.
