Easyjet, Jet2 and Ryanair flights to Italy from Glasgow and Edinburgh suspended over coronavirus fears

Flights from Scotland to various Italian cities have been suspended.

Easyjet, Jet2 and Ryanair said services would be halted between Edinburgh and Bergamo, Bologna, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Rome, Treviso, Turin, Venice and Verona.

Flights between Glasgow and Naples, Rome and Venice will also be stopped.

Jet2 confirmed all journeys to Italy have been halted for over a month, with normal service due to resume on April 26.

The strict measures come following the decision by the Italian government to severely restrict travel across the country.

A spokeswoman for Easyjet, Scotland's largest airline, said: “Following the latest decree issued 9 March by the Italian authorities implementing further restrictions for the whole of Italy, Easyjet is reviewing its scheduled programme between today and 3 April.

“The majority of flights to and from Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Venice and Verona have been cancelled for the coming days

"Affected customers are being advised of their options by email and text message, include re-booking and refunding.”

Ryanair announced all its flights to Italy would be halted between midnight on Friday midnight on Wednesday 8 April.

Its spokeswoman said: "All affected passengers have received email notices today informing them of these flight cancellations.

"Passengers looking for repatriation can obtain a free move to an earlier Ryanair flight operating up until midnight on Friday.

"Affected passengers will be able to choose between a full refund or a travel credit that can be redeemed on Ryanair flights in the next 12 months."

A Jet2 spokesman said: “We always follow the travel advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, who are currently advising against all but essential travel to Italy.

"As such, we have cancelled all flights to Italy (Rome, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Venice and Verona) between now and 26 April

"We are contacting customers who are due to travel to Italy to advise them of their options, and we are also contacting customers who are currently in Italy, to arrange to fly them back to the UK."
