Leeds Bradford Airport flight departures halted 'due to drone sighting'

Flights have been halted at Leeds Bradford Airport due to a 'drone sighting'.

The Mirror reports some planes are currently being diverted to Humberside and Manchester.

Others have been placed in the holding pattern to the North of the airport.

Passengers on board and at the airport have been tweeting about the situation.

One said: "So just about to take off when drone spotted so flight stopped!! Guess I could be sitting on this plane for a while - travelling to Belfast from Leeds Bradford Airport."

Another commented: "I'm at Leeds and Bradford airport right now just had a report of a drone near by a Jet2 B757 200 G LSAG from Ibiza and a drone. The traffic had been closed due to this event I heard from the ATC Radio. Now have other planes due to land being diverted."

"Stuck on a plane at #LeedsBradford Airport because there's a drone flying nearby. All flights halted...," said a third.

A number of arrivals have been listed as 'holding' - including flights from Malaga and Alicante.
