Flights delayed at Manchester Airport by French strike action

A number of flights have been delayed at Manchester Airport due to strike action in France.

The airport says a handful of flights have been affected this morning.

A passenger on a delayed 6.50am easyJet flight to Lanzarote, which has since departed, said crew kept children entertained by letting them look around the cockpit and make announcements over the tannoy while they waited for departure.

The passenger said: "We were about to take off then they stopped the plane and said we'll be parked here at least an hour and twenty minutes.

"The captain said they're rerouting most of the planes from Manchester around French air space."

Air-traffic controllers, transport workers and other employees in France are staging a walk-out over government plans to reform pensions.

As a result the French aviation authority have ordered airlines flying to from, or over France, to cancel some flights.

Passengers are being advised to check with their airlines before they travel.
