Flight redirected to Edinburgh Airport after passenger takes ill on board

A Loganair flight was forced to make a mid-air diversion to Edinburgh Airport following a medical emergency.

Flight LM582 from Inverness to Birmingham took off just after 1pm and was flying over Peebles when a diversion to the Capital was forced after a passenger became ill on board.

A code 7700 was transmitted to air traffic control, signalling the need for an immediate touchdown.

The Daily Record reported it landed safely at Edinburgh Airport at about 1.40pm.

Loganair confirmed that the emergency was medical in nature, with one passenger requiring treatment.

They were met at the airport by emergency services, with the passenger being taken off by a sedan chair.

The airline added that the plane would continue onto Birmingham as soon as they were able to do so.

A Loganair spokeswoman said: “Flight LM582 from Inverness to Birmingham was diverted to Edinburgh after a passenger became ill and a medical emergency was declared.

"The aircraft was met by emergency services and the passenger was taken off the plane by a sedan chair.

“The aircraft will continue on to its destination of Birmingham as soon as the crew and remaining passengers are able to do so.

“Safety as always is our number one priority, and we wish the passenger well.”
