Flight from Alicante to Manchester diverts to London Gatwick to eject disruptive passenger

A flight bound for Manchester was forced to divert to London Gatwick to eject a disruptive passenger.

The easyJet flight from Alicante to Manchester Airport made an unplanned landing at Gatwick today (Thursday).

easyJet confirmed that a passenger was met by police as they were escorted from the aircraft.

The airline said it does not tolerate 'abusive or threatening' behaviour.

The flight is due to land at Manchester Airport this afternoon.

A spokesperson for easyJet said: “We can confirm that flight EZY1918 from Alicante to Manchester was required to divert to London Gatwick and met by police on arrival due to a passenger behaving disruptively. The passenger was offloaded in London Gatwick and the aircraft will shortly be continuing to Manchester.

"Our cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour.

“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority.”
