Flight forced to land at Dublin Airport due to cracked cockpit window

An Air Canada flight was forced to make a u-turn and land in Dublin Airport after a cracked window was discovered in the cockpit.

Crew noticed that a crack had appeared in the captain's side window on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane on flight AC857 from London Heathrow to Toronto.

The plane had just flown over Ireland when the decision was made to turn back and land in the capital.

The aircraft landed safely in Dublin and a replacement plane was flown to the capital to pick up the passengers the following day.

It is reported that the damaged plane was on the ground for around 30 hours before being repaired and flying back to Toronto where it has since resumed regular service.

A spokesman for Air Canada confirmed the incident to Dublin Live saying: "On November 23, 2019, AC857, operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, from London Heathrow to Toronto, diverted to Dublin due to a cracked Captain’s side window.

"There were 254 passengers onboard, who were put in hotels for the night. Another aircraft was dispatched to bring the customers home the next day and the original aircraft was repaired and has since returned to service."
