The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Sister Sledge: Thinking Of You (Dimitri From Paris Remix)
We’ve opened numerous sets with this. It’s the perfect intro, and it’s slow enough that you can build into some house or hip-hop after it.
The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Todd Terje: Inspector Norse
It’s unfair how good this song is. Todd Terje has somehow managed to bottle fun.
The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Mark Ronson: Uptown Funk
This is just undeniably an awesome commercial song. Thoroughly deserving of its success, and a shining light among some pretty bland and thoughtless pop.
The track I think has been unfairly slept on this year
Tame Impala: Let It Happen
Yeah, I know, it hasn’t been slept on at all. But I’m going to say it has because I’m not sick of hearing it yet.
The track that should have been a crossover hit
Client Liaison: End Of The Earth
This should have been played at sporting finals, Eurovision, Olympic montages. This song is the second coming of Down Under by Men At Work. Songs like this are rarer than unicorns.
The track I wish I’d never played
The Gummi Bears Theme (A Cappella Version)
I played it at 6am when everyone was completely crooked. In hindsight, it was the dumbest idea I’ve ever had, and I think I partly knew it because I hid the moment I pressed play. But everyone went berserk and started singing along while fist pumping, so I don’t entirely regret it.
The ideal festival track
Mylo: Drop The Pressure
Realistically, I think the Chemical Brothers have the best festival tracks, but I’d love to attend a type of festival where this was the biggest tune of the day.
The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
The Emotions: Best Of My Love
A total failsafe for any generation. If anyone doesn’t like this song, they didn’t deserve the wedding invite.
The track I’d play at sunset in Ibiza
Matias Aguayo: Minimal (DJ Koze Remix)
If a sunset had a sound, I’m fairly sure it would be this.
The track I’d play at my funeral
John Williams: Jurassic Park Main Theme
I love this song. There’s also something a little bit funny about being sent off to music associated with extinction.
